PalmSHIELD heads to Kilmarnock, Virginia

Dirt will soon be moving in Kilmarnock as ground breaking has been scheduled for the new Town Centre Park.  “This park is what the community has asked for and we will soon be underway,” stated Mae Umphlett, Kilmarnock’s Mayor.  A ceremonial ground breaking event is scheduled for October 5, 2016 at 5:00 PM at 150 North Main Street, the park’s official address.

“The entire community of Lancaster, Northumberland and Middlesex counties is invited” said Umphlett. “This is a park for not only the residents and visitors to Kilmarnock, but something we hope the entire region will take pride in, use and enjoy.”

The Kilmarnock Town Centre Park began two years ago, when the Town Council asked a group of community leaders to determine what to do with the 9 acres located at N. Main Street and Town Centre Drive. Key features include an amphitheater, a multi-purpose colonnade structure, a children’s play area, a central plaza area and a dog park. The children’s play area includes a traditional playground location and “splash pad”. The “splash pad” is a water feature for play much like a fountain.  The splash pad will be a unique aspect of the park. The pad is a paved area with water jets in the surface. The water is on a timer and activated by a push button. Once turned on, the jets create arcing water that children can play in. This feature would only be available in warmer months.

The picnic area can also be used as a small wedding area. The colonnade is an open sided structure that leads the way into the park. It also can be used for multiple purposes-farmers’ markets, vendors, central check-in for events, an alternate music venue as examples. The central plaza is the entrance focal point overlooking the amphitheater and will serve as a location for vendors or an additional music location during an event.
